Pipe and filter, but fuzzy

In a shell you pipe grep into sort into uniq. Every stage trusts the bytes it gets. In a prompt chain the pipe carries natural language. Step two can misread what step one meant, and the error travels downstream. So how do you give a chain of prompts something like type safety? Make the handoff structured. Step one returns JSON with a schema, code validates it, and step two receives fields, not prose. The language stays inside each step. Between steps you have types again. That one habit removes most of the drift people blame on the model.
